JOHN MERRITT was born in England in 1625. He settled in Scituate, Plymouth, MA. He administered his father's estate in 1653.
On Apr. 3, 1655, he married ELIZABETH WYBORN, of Boston. The marriage ceremony was performed by Capt.
HUMPHREY ATHERTON of Cambridge, MA. In those days only civil marriages were legal. They lived on the
paternal homestead, but JOHN died in middle life, leaving three sons.
